They are paying his entry fee of $10,000 in the World Series of Poker.
Luongo, who has more than $47 million remaining on his long-term contract with the Canucks, has (apparently) an endorsement deal with the lottery corporation.
As part of that contract, the lottery corporation confirmed that Luongo represents them at a number of gaming events, including the World Series of Poker main event. While the price on entry for such a tournament is pretty high, the fun offered by new microgaming games might be more accessible for fans of gambling, slot and table games.
