When it comes to sport, there are various forms that sport takes and the one we want to feature this week on our new weekly feature of Meatball Monday is that of Bed Racing.
Talk about inviting new fans to the sport, if you think outside the box, this could be used a possibly a sport for the Tour de Delta, quite possibly either Friday in North Delta or Saturday in Ladner in addition to the kid’s bike race.
Not only is it unique, it a cheap sport to get into, especially since Delta has the annual spring clean-up the first part of April each year. If you’re looking to get a new full size mattress then why not use your old one on this!
So – what’s required? Six skill-full individuals, runners, matching shorts and shirts, a mattress and of course a bed.
The most interesting part about this sport is no helmet and no gloves, but you would need a coach and maybe a team leader?
That’s it and would it ever invite sponsors and one could think of inviting Christine Magee, the co-founder of Sleep Country Canada.
In addition to being the largest retailer of mattresses in Canada, providing outstanding in-store and home delivery service from over 240 corporate-owned stores in 17 regional markets.
Here’s the start info!
The sport of Bed Racing has been embraced by the people of the North Yorkshire Town of Knaresborough.
The first race in 1965 was only open to Army, Navy and American Marines, but now the competition is open to anyone. The competitors race in teams of five, plus one on the bed.
Each team must provide their own bed, decorated in the theme for the year.
The bed runs on four wheels, but also need to be able to float. The 3km run race begins and ends at Conyngham Hall.
About halfway through the run, the teams face the one-in-five gradient climb to Castle Top before it’s back down the hill and toward the final challenge – crossing a river.
