Given the manner in which the SFU Football team was treated by the school the saga continues in hopes that the football team will get reinstated by the SFU.
Since it was released there has been an outpouring of support for the team and possibly the school felt that this would be a small issue that it would pass without any concern.
In this case the school was so far beyond centre field they couldn’t have converted and the only way is to step back and call a “time-out” and send in another quarterback to get past the goal line.
The saga continues and earlier tonight I received the following from Jim Mullen regarding the actions that must be taken forward.
Let’s not forget that the BC Lions support SFU!!!
Enjoy the release!
SFU MUST REINSTATE football FOR 2023 TO REVIEW
THE COURTS WILL DECIDE STUDENT-ATHLETES FUTURE WITH PRESIDENT’S DECISION
The SFU Football Alumni Society disapproves of the latest tactic by the university administration to keep football off the field in 2023.
“If SFU appoints a special advisor to review football, the university must immediately reinstate the football program for 2023. Without that, there is no football program to evaluate.” SFUFAS legal counsel Glen Orris said late Thursday.
“Stopping the program to re-evaluate its future will guarantee its demise,” Orris said.
SFU’s puzzling decision has jeopardized the football future of their 95 student-athletes.
“This process does not consider the future of SFU’s current student-athletes.” SFUFAS President Mark Bailey said.
“SFU must reinstate the program for 2023 to make this process work toward a conclusion,” Bailey said.
Earlier in the day in a 30-minute meeting, members of the SFUFAS presented information to the SFU administration, including showing viable paths to a complete schedule in 2023 and beyond. This included a full player roster, coaching staff and a nine-game schedule.
“We presented our information in good faith and felt positive about our discussions with SFU,” Bailey said.
“Our faith in an opaque process has not been rewarded by an administration who has not earnestly worked for their student-athletes,” he said.
According to Orris, the SFUFAS remains committed to supporting the five SFU players who filed for a court injunction to support the program’s return in 2023.
“If we end up in court fighting this on May 3, then we will do it,” Orris said.
