The game the BC Lions played against the Stampeders was exciting for everyone to watch on the tube, but if you were there in person, imagine the hype you could have got from it.
Pulling off a last-minute 25-24 win on the road gave running back Andrew Harris his third Canadian Player of the Week award and defensive back Ronnie Yell has collected Defensive Player of the Week kudos as announced by the CFL this morning.
Harris was huge once again for the Lions’ offence pounding the ball for 70 yards along the ground on 15 carries and adding another 73 yards through the air on five receptions including a four-yard major in the fourth quarter.
This is Harris’ third Player of the Week award in the Canadian category to go along with the monthly award for July he picked up last week.
The talented running back remains atop the CFL rushing standings after six weeks with 381 yards and the league’s second-best pass-receiving total of 341 yards to give him a CFL-leading 722 yards from scrimmage.
First-year Lion defensive back Ronnie Yell garnered Defensive Player of the Week honours with a brilliant performance including his first pro interception which he promptly returned 34 yards for a major.
If the pick-six wasn’t enough, the talented cornerback also forced a fumble in the closing moments Friday night to snuff out a Calgary drive that appeared destined for the game’s winning points.
The Lions return home this week to take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place on Friday, August 8 at 7:00 pm presented by Nissan.
There’s no better way to enjoy summer than Lions football and two of the best ways to take in the action are the Global BC Family Zone ($30 including free hotdog and small pop) and the Gemstone Gridiron Deck ($30).
Both sections are on sale now – visit ticketmaster.ca or call 604.589.ROAR for more information.
THANKS TO THE BC LIONS FOR THE INFO.
