Third Time Not A Charm

Team British Columbia’s Kelly Scott had curled in two Scotties Tournament of Hearts finals prior to this weekend; winning on both occasions.

However, the Kelowna skip couldn’t score her third title in six years on Sunday.

“We’re very disappointed in how we came to play” said Scott, following a 7-6 loss to Team Alberta at the Canadian Women Curling Championships in Red Deer, Alta.

“[We were] heavy on way too many draws, and they way out curled us that game.” While Scott admitted the home team had indeed earned the win, she also acknowledged that it could have gone either way on any given day.“ You can’t say they were a better team, or we were a better team.

It was who played better today, and that was them.”

Considering the tournament included four time Scotties champion, Jennifer Jones (Manitoba), and defending Champion, Amber Holland (Canada), Scott was thrilled just to be competing in the final.

“No complaints whatsoever.

[We’re] pleased we got ourselves in this position; battling throughout the week.”

Scott’s rink finished off the tournament’s round robin in second place, with a record of 8-3. Her team fast tracked to the final draw on Sunday with a play off win over first place Team Manitoba (9-2) on Friday.

Heather Neodhin’s Team Alberta — 7-4 in round robin — had to win back-to-back playoff games on Saturday to earn a spot in the final against BC.

The championship victory was the first for Nedohin, while it was also the first title at the Scotties for Alberta since 1998.Despite losing in the final draw,

Kelly Scott’s friendly personality was bright for the whole nine day tournament, earning the BC skip “Most Accommodating Interview” from the editor of the Canadian Curling Association’s “Heart Chart” publication.
