For a pair of twins finding the perfect sport to play especially together is quite unique, but the pair from Delta seem relentless in any match they play.
They only started four short years ago while on a Family holiday and it’s probably one of the one’s where the parents say “go find something to do” which they obviously did and did well.
At first it was played for fun, but now playing at a far more competitive level we see them travel around the globe excelling and at the same time having fun as Sisters.
That alone has to make any Parent happy as given the things to get involved in these days, this is a Parents dream come true.
They finished school in June and never missed a beat with the travels taking them to the FIVB U19 World Championships where they defeated Germany’s Leonie Welsch and Constanze Bieneck 2-0 (21-19, 23-21) in a direct match for first place in pool A.
As expected it was a tough match with great rallies. It was point-by-point in the first set until the Canadians scored two points coming from 19-19. In the second set the twins took a three point lead in the middle, but the Germans fought back to reach set point at 20-18.
They stayed the course and levelled at 20-20 claiming the match and first place on their second match point and regardless of which Sister you asked they both mentioned “It was so nerve wracking, but in the end it worked out well.”
This trip saw the Parents and Grandparents make it to the match as they (apparently) had never been to Portugal and it just happened we had to play on our birthday.”
So as any proud Parent would do they went on to embarase the girls, by singing ‘happy birthday’ to the Girls and who else was leading the sing-song – Mom who reflected that it was exactly 17 years ago the Girls were born.
So as competitive as sport can be following the match they were given a birthday gift from the players of Namibia – their national cap.
The U21 World Championships in Cyprus last week was their first ever FIVB event and they finished 17th overall, but it’s the experience alone that helped out in the end.
All this in the short start of their beach volleyball career so now they are going to enrol in the American beach volleyball programme to play in the college competition.
Now I hear that they are (verbally) committed to attend UCLA in Los Angeles
I am told by my sources that even before volleyball there dream and hope was to play in California
So now it’s Sun – Sand – Surf and Volleyball
Along with co-host Chad Dey we recently had them as guest’s on Delta TV’s “The Locker Room” and it was a true pleasure to have a chat with such a delightful pair of young Athletes who call Delta home!
Twin’s yes – and it is hard to tell them apart!!
Just like the Mamas and Papas sang about – it really is California Dreamin!!!
