We often get notifications regarding Athletes at all levels of sport as to their progression as they move forward and the following below only adds to the success as they move forward.

The release below was sent to Sportswave from Douglas Clement who has a long and respected connection with Canada’s longest 10K road race – the Vancouver Sun.

On this third week of April, Canadian track and field athletes gained momentum as they all began their drive for July’s Paris Olympic Games. 

Gateneau,QC’s Audrey Leduc confirmed her rising abilities in the 100m by shattering the Canadian record by clocking 10.96 (0.5) in Baton Rouge, LA last weekend. 

She will now compete in the World Relays Championships in Nassau, Bahamas which is the Olympic Qualification event where Canada will contest the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m as well as the mixed 4x400m on May 4th and 5th. 27 Canadian sprinters will travel to the Bahamas in just over a week.

The top 14 teams at the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 will automatically qualify for places at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 

Teams will have two opportunities to qualify in Nassau; if they’re unsuccessful on day one, another chance will be provided on day two.

The remaining two places in each relay discipline will be awarded based on top lists during the qualification period (31 December 2022 – 30 June 2024).

Richmond, BC’s, Camryn Rogers won the Mt SAC Relays hammer competition with a mark of 76.30m last weekend. 

The University of California in Berkley graduate won the 2023 World Championships Gold in Budapest, Hungary last summer with a toss of 77.20m.

In 2002 she took the silver medal in the same event in Eugene, OR. The 24 year old took the World U20 Championship Gold in 2019 Tampere, Finland.

Brooklyn, NS’s Sarah Milton kicked off her early season Diamond League season in Xiamen, China with a shot put spin of 19.35m. 

The 27 year old University of Windsor graduate who majored in biochemistry, is the 2023 World silver medallist and 2024 World Indoor champion, the first Canadian woman to medal in the shot put at either World Athletics global championship. 

As well, she is the 2023 Pan American, 2022 Commonwealth, and 2019 Summer Universiade champion. 

Mitton represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and holds both the indoor and outdoor national records in women’s shot put with marks of 20.22m and 20.33m respectively.
