Malawsky Grabs First Win

Locally in pro lacrosse the NLL Vancouver Warriors played host to the Georgia Swarm in a Holiday Celebration Tradition game at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.

Vancouiers last match-up against the Swarm dates back to February 29, 2020 that saw the Swarm pull off an impressive 14-7 win in front of a disappointing Warrior faithful.

It should be known that the Swarm currently hold a 6-0 advantage over Vancouver in a game that had them wanting to continue their winning streak.

This game has the Warriors looking from the previous 11-7 loss against Panther City in their home opener that saw local fan favorite Curt Malawsky make his debut who has now assumed the role of GM and Head Coach.

For those attending the game they were faced with traffic issues starting well prior to any of the bridges in the area with some arriving after the official face-off.

This contest saw the Warriors come out with more of an aggressive style of play than in game one that saw them get hat tricks from three different players in addition to the four goals collected by Ryan Martel.

In addition he collected four assists on the night that was a closely marked contest through the first two quarters that saw the Warriors rebound hammering six goals in the third quarter leading by four goals entering the fourth quarter.

Strong play saw three goals from Adam Charalambides, Keegan Bal, and Kevin Crowley while James Rahe and Kyle Killen each tallied one.

This contest saw Curt’s squad play solidly in their own half of the floor from the opening face-off which was obviously a game strategy set  in motion.

The crowd to say the least was sparse and with many attending Christmas parties over the holiday season it was nonetheless disappointing to see.

The Warriors hit the road for a match-up December 23rd that has them square off against the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, December 23 at 4PM PT in Week 4 of NLL action.

Warriors “tender” Aaron Bold faced 42 shots stopping 35 while Swarm’s Brett Dobson made 30 saves allowing 14 goals in the pre-Christmas contest.

The Warriors return home to face Malawsky’s former team the Calgary Roughnecks that also marks the return of local Delta player Logan Schuss who is currently on the Injury list.
