FIS Ski Cross

February 28th proved to be successful for a mixed pair of skiers as  Chris Del Bosco and Courtney Hoffos won Silver in mixed Ski Cross competition.

The win gives them a “chance” to represent Canada for a pair of spots at the World Championships in Cortina Italy or the Winter Olympics in Beijing China

The debut of the World Cup event in Bakuriani, Georgia saw the Canada 2 team finish second that saw Montreal’s Del Bosco mentioned to Alpine Canada “It feels awesome, the guys kept it tight to give the girls a shot and it was all on her, she fought all the way through the final.”

The Swiss 1 Team, composed of the pair that was ranked in the top five was made up of  Fanny Smith and Jonas Lenherr managed to pull off an impressive win grabbing Gold.

Chris Del Bosco and Courtney Hoffos finished in second with Silver while Sweden’s Sandra Naslund of Sweden finished third taking home Bronze.

Montreal’s Del Bosco when asked by Alpine Canada mentioned “It feels awesome, the guys kept it tight to give the girls a shot and it was all her; as she fought her way through the final stages to the final.” 

Windermere BC Courtney Hoffos mentioned “Del kept it close for me in every single heat so it was really fun.”

 The Swiss 1 team featured recently crowned Women’s World Cup Champion Fanny Smith and partner Jonas Lenherr stood atop the podium winning gold. 

World champion Sandra Naslund of Sweden was overtaken by Smith in the final leg of the relay format to finish third in the competition.

This puts additional pressure for the second racer of the team as Reece Howed (Cultus Lake) and Prince George’s Tiana Gairns finish fourth in the competition. 

According to Alpine Canada the aim of the International Ski Federation is to add a mixed team Ski- Cross into the World Cup and Olympic competition. 

The next Ski-Cross World Cup Race is scheduled for March 12th in Sunny Valley, Russia .

  • Canada 5, 9th: Hannah Schmidt and Carson Cook
