Winnipeg’s Nick Taylor pulled off an impressive finish this year at the somewhat unique Masters Golf Tournament finishing tied for 29th in the final round that saw four (4) Canadians in the hunt for placings.
Corey Conners at nine under and ranked as the top Canadian, while Nick Taylor was even at -3 for the tournament that saw fellow Canadians Adam Hadwin at one under, Mike Weir at four over as four Canadians made the final cut for the last two rounds.
Dustin Johnson, currently ranked as the World’s one player finished in record fashion for an impressive -20 under through 72 Holes setting a new course record at Augusta National Golf Course.
The only other closest player to Dustin Johnson was South Korea’s Sungjae Im who finished tied with Cameron Smith from Brisbane Australia for second with scores of -15 under.
Other great showing by Canadian golfers on the PGA tour were Listowel Ontario’s 28 year-old Corey Conners who finished tied in 9th place with Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson in a three way tie at -9 and in the money.
Nick Taylor at -3 Nick is in his year on the PGA tour tied with Chev Reavie and Rick Fowler of the United States joining them tied for 29th were Bernhard Langer of Germany and Sung Kang of South Korea.
For his efforts Nick earned $81,650 for his finish and mentioned “He enjoyed his experience at the event.”
After Sunday’s final round he stated “I feel like I got better every day and leaving Friday night I thought I was more likely to miss [the cut] than make it so I was really happy to make the cut.”
He added “It was a thrill to play with Canadian golf legend Mike Weir, who won the Masters back in 2003.
Mike Weir former Champion calls Sarnia Ontario home but only won the Masters at Augusta winning the Master Tournament once in his career finished at 2 over.
Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin also competed at the event, but shot 74 and 71 on the first two days and missed the cut.
Hadwin had previously competed at the Masters in 2017 and 2018, finishing tied for 36th and tied for 24th in those years.
Moose Jaw’s Adam Hadwin who also competed in the Masters in 2017 and 2018 finished tied for 36th and 24th respectively and finished at one under had a solid run over the 4 days of the tournament.
Hadwin qualified after finishing in the top 50 of the world golf rankings for 2019 that saw him earn the invite Dec. 23, 2019.
Taylor punched his ticket to the event with a win at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Feb. 9th edging out Phil Mickelson in the final round becoming the first Canadian to win at the California event.
