So exactly who is fifty-four year old Randy Ambrosie and why was he recently named as the new incoming 14th Commissioner for the CFL?

First let’s remember that the search began this past April as the league (CFL) and Jeffrey Orridge separated after a short two years on the job and the search was probably more to do with a division of understanding of how the league should be run and also in which direction.

Along with being named as the CFL’s 14th commissioner he calls Winnipeg home and in his early career played for the University of Manitoba Bison’s.

He’s a former CFL offensive lineman who was selected in the 85 CFL entry draft, second overall managing to play in nine seasons playing with Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Edmonton where he won CFL’s 81st Grey Cup with the Esk’s in1993.

His first playing day was as a Stampeder was in 1985 where he wa filled with excitement and now carries this excitement over to his new position and having won a Grey Cup, now he get’s to present it.

Following his retirement he went into the financial side of things where he was the President of AGF Management (2004-2009), President and CEO of Accretive 360 Inc, President of 3Macs as well as a full-service investment dealer .

From this he went on to serve as the secretary for the CFL’s Players Association for two years, so as you can tell he’s a player’s person, but should be a good fit for Ownership and Management as well.

He mentioned recently that he thinks a “brick to brick” approach is the key of success to improving the Argonauts and he knows that it’s a competitive market, especially in southern Ontario.

Of course he’s referring to the NHL Maple Leafs and the MLB Toronto Raptors, but is also looking at the overall population of the area in which millions of people live and love sport.

It’s obvious that with his passion and love for the game he’ll make positive moves moving forward in his new position with the CFL.
