There aren’t many local players that are known only by one name, but the number of players continue to grow, with the most recent being the name of Whitecaps star Alphonso Davies.
Alphonso Davies made his last debut on home pitch Sunday October 28th managing to score two great goals propelling the Caps to a 2-1 victory in front of 25,348 supporters.

He finished the season and his career with the Caps grabbing 8 goals and 11 assists, as the Homegrown midfielder focuses on the next installment of his career and will be joining the German Bundesliga Club Bayern Munich after a huge MLS transfer agreement earlier in July.
He signed with the Caps as a 13 year-old five short years ago managing to developed his game to the point of attracting worldwide attention to clubs throughout the world and interesting enough he turns 18 November 2nd.
Sunday saw the Whitecaps enter the match with an aggressive style of play from the opening kickoff forcing the Timbers midfield to several turnovers giving up possession of the ball holding a 66% possession in the opening half.
The Caps managed to open the field creating several scoring chances that saw Kendall Waston sail a header over the bar 10 short minutes only to be turned aside by Timbers “tender” Jeff Attinella managing to get a finger on it to keeping the game scoreless.
Timber’s best chance was the in the 23rd minute when Darion Asprilla entered the Caps penalty area only to have smothered by Cap’s tender Stefan Marinovic keeping the game scoreless.
Timbers Lucas Meleno was booked in the 27th minute allowing Davies to run to go the length of the field managing to deke out the Timbers “D” that saw him hammer the ball to the back of the net bulging the twine putting the Caps on the scoreboard.
A short 4 minutes later he chased down the Portland defender to the far corner that saw him deke Timbers “tender” Jeff Attinella giving the Caps an impressive 2 nil lead.
The Caps took the two goal lead to the half, that saw them build on their first half performance of carrying this to the second half.

The Caps saw Felipe sub 64th minute for Jordan Mutch taking a Davies long cross pass across the box only to have it go wide of the far post keeping the match at a 2 nil game.
The Davies show continued that saw him attack the Timbers defenders several additional occasions only to have him cause havoc in the Portland penalty area.
Nicolas Mezquida came of for Yordy Renya (78th minute) that saw him (Mezquida) almost bury his chance off the wing that saw Jeff Attinella palm wide for a corner.
The loudest ovation, other than the one for Davies in the Introductions by Whitecaps announcer Don Andrews came when he was subbed for 15 year-old Simon Colyn a Whitecaps Academy prospect.
The Portland Timbers spoiled the “Davies” show managing to grab a late goal that saw Andres Flores get behind the Caps defenders making the final score a Vancouver – er Davies 2, Portland timbers one.
The Conclusion of the match saw the Whitecaps present Davies with a player portrait that can proudly displayed in the Davies household.
In addition he (Davies) was named “Man of the Match” for Whitecaps in this his final game as a Whitecap fan favorite.
The Caps finished at .500 on the season (13-13-8) with 49 points and out of the postseason scoring 56 goals while conceding 67 against.
Sticking with “local” tradition after the match saw the Players sign their Jerseys off their backs for season ticket holders.
