Whitecaps FC2 Defeat Tulsa

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 continue it’s strong showing with a 3-2 come from behind win over the Tulsa Roughnecks FC2 at Thunderbird Stadium at UBC in front of 857 supporters.

The win see’s the club improve to 4-0-2 and to remain in second place in the Western Conference behind the LA Galaxy FC2.

The theme of the game was Star Wars with Darth Vader and Storm Troopers characters dressed up for photo ops, which included the Whitecaps mascot participating.

Sammy Ochao opened the scoring in the 11th minute after taking a long pass with the back-line caught up field beating Marco Carducci.

From there the Whitecaps dominated creating chances with dangerous crosses in the Roughnecks penalty area testing goalkeeper Jake Feener.

Marco Bustos broke in off the wing from the top of the penalty area having Feener tip off his finger deflecting it wide in the 18th minute.

Cap’s Brett Levis had one skip from 25 yards out only to be palmed wide by Jake Feener.

The Whitecaps used three of the first squad in the match forward Erik Hurtado midfielder Kianz Froese and defender Sam Adekugbe against the Roughnecks FC2.

The visitors made an injury substitution (24th minute) as Brady Ballew replaced midfielder Ballobi.

Sammy Ochao almost had his second of the night after a turnover in midfield; but Carducci made a key save to keep the Vancouver within a goal.

Extra minutes were added and sub Brady Ballew entered in the 24th minute for the Roughnecks almost added to the Tulsa lead only to have his shot go over the cross bar.

Vancouver approached the second half saw more desire in the second half as Sem De Wit hammered a shot off the post followed another flurry that saw them come close on the is night of the attack of the Whitecap Clones who were relentless in the second half.

The 67th minute saw the Caps get the equalizer as Kyle Grieg scored (first 5th of the season) coming in from just inside the penalty area set by Alphonso Davis leaving Feener with no chance tying the match at 1.

The 78th minute saw Sammy Ochao score (second of the night) off a corner kick heading home the ball past Carducci of Vancouver giving the visitors a 2-1 the assist went to Brady Ballew who sent in the perfect cross as they led 2-1 in the match.

Six minutes later (84th minute) Kianz Froese was set-up from Daniel Haber getting the equalizer tying the game at 2.

With time running out the Caps got the game winner from Daniel Haber in the 89th minute blasting it home past Roughnecks keeper Feener giving Vancouver a 3-2 lead.

The match saw an extra three minutes added and the victory looked secure for the Caps but Marco Carducci made a key save off of Kyle McLeod preserving the victory.

On this night clearly “The Force” stayed with them to remain undefeated in 2016 in the USL Division Soccer league.

The next game for Whitecaps FC2 squad’s continues May 15th when they face the LA Galaxy 2 at 2:00pm.

This is followed by a match May 20th when Portland FC2 comes stops by Thunderbird stadium with the kick-off set for 7:30 pm.
