Where Will Bautista End Up?

It’s interesting to hear the thoughts of some players that are hitting the open market or maybe even “testing” the waters to see what offers they might attract, but are the contracts getting too high?

While the players often have a shortened career than in past seasons and/or years they are (for the most part) playing for a Championship Trophy, which doesn’t last all that long.

So is it the money or the dedication to the team or game that attracts them or is it the unselfish funds that their agent will receive once they sign that “mega contract”?

It’s probably a bit of both, but while we question the motive, one really can’t blame them for wanting what they can get or what the market will pay.

One such player is Jose Bautista (36) who remains on the open market, adding speculation that he might accept a one-year deal with the Jay’s or are we only hoping?

In doing so allow Bautista he might just add to his market value in 2017 then possibly hit the market a year all full well knowing that teams connect him to draft pick compensation with a qualifying offer.

Yet it’s quite possible that he might just attract multi-year offers from various clubs, so the realism of him taking a one-year deal has the potential to be more fact than fiction.

Should he wait or hold out for a year, he still would be ranked in the top 20 in baseball average exit velocity, only sitting behind Josh Donaldson.

Apparently there are some possible questions as to his fit in the clubhouse and are extremely reluctant or hesitant to possibly surrender a top draft pick for him.

Regardless of his lack of signing to date, he is one that could and would attract crowds in various parks throughout the MLB and attendance pays the bills.

The same can be said about any team and money issues as to how much they actually might be willing to pay a player of his caliber, but after all we’re talking about Bautista.

I am hearing that a player of his caliber might attract between $20 and $25 million for a player of his caliber.

The other issue that the Jay’s have yet to address is the need for a backup catcher and apparently have shown interest in Bobby Wilson, prior to him signing a minor-league deal with the Dodgers, so we are hearing.
