The teams competing in the three day Canada Cup tournament included Canada, US, Australia, Great Brittan, Japan, Belgium, Sweden and France and all are headed to 2012 Games in London for the Paralympics.

It promises to be some fierce competition to see who comes out on top as top dog in this event for the 2012 Wheelchair Rugby.

The US won Gold at the 2012 Canada Cup finals Saturday with a narrow two-point victory over Canada 53-31. The first half ended in a tie with both clubs putting on a show that featured skill and excellence in the second half.

The US led 39-34 after three quarters and Canada put up a great fourth quarter outscoring the US 17-11 pulling within two.

The final minute Canada was denied additional points, but came close with the US who eventually held on for the victory before a capacity crowd in the three day event.

Australia took Bronze out of the top 8 teams in the world heading to London for the Paralympics in 2012.

This is the forth time the US won the event at the Wheelchair Rugby title since 2004 when it started.

Canada moved up three spots by it’s placing after a disappointing 5th place in 2010.

Sportswave offers our best wishes for a great tournament in London as well to the organizers of this event in Richmond.
