Warriors Super Hero Night

Locally the Vancouver Warriors hosted their first Annual Super Hero Night as they were playing host to their rival Saskatchewan Rush.

The game marked the one third point in the season under the new Coach and GM Curt Malawsky who despite his leadership they continue to struggle in the goal department managing 90 while allowing 105 against.

In hopes of gaining a stronger following by means of various “theme nights” such as College Night plus having a record crowd for their home opener for Country Night for whatever reason they come up short in the goal department.

While the “theme” nights attract fans of all ages Marvel Super hero night was one in which the league partnered up with what was hoped to be the Marvel Universe.

In today’s sports world when Families are making plans to attend any event they want to be entertained as in most cases they are spending money for a sporting event which could be spent elsewhere.

Quite often teams and organizations are more focused on money rather than entertainment which in some cases the team and/or organization are missing out.

In conversation with some who attended the Warriors “theme night” they had mentioned that this was probably the best one put on by a pro team and yes – even the Canucks which somewhat shocked  us.

Adding to the night of fun saw the Warriors added various giveaways, tattoos as well as feature air-brush tattoos for those willing to become a SuperHero for the night.

There was no question about making it a fan filled fun event that had  the Warriors debut special jerseys for the evening that would have selected jerseys available for action with a part of the proceeds going to the BC Lacrosse Association.

The one not selected will be available for the public to win in various contests but the one worn by Keegan Bal was available to the first 1,000 fans arriving at Rogers Arena and was rightly listed as “Marvel Legends of Lax.”

There would be an additional 2,000 made available throughout the game in a contest that saw Aaron Bold make an impressive 34 shaves in addition to watching Georgetown’s Adam Charalambides collect three goals albeit in a losing contest who also celebrated his Birthday February 12th.

Seldom does any team get the start they want and in this game saw their largest lead by a mere two goals in the first three quarters but the fourth was different.

Heading into the final quarter saw the Rush holding on to a slim 9-8 lead only to have the team in green add three additional goals to secure a 13-8 win.

Warriors play maker Adam Charalambides managed to grab three goals as well as three assists while Keegan Bal and Ryan Marteleach got a pair for a total of six.

The additional two were hammered home by Dylan McIntosh and Riley Loewen that saw the Warriors manage only eight in four quarters that had the team get a bye week prior to heading east for their next game against the Toronto Rock February 24th at 4 pm.

On a side-note to the above Keegan Bal recently received his Championship ring from the Ladner Pioneers who won their second consecutive Presidents Cup this past fall.

They return home to Rogers Arena to take on the Buffalo Bandits with the face-off set for 7 pm
