VETERAN QB RESIGNS
The BC Lions made it official and announced that they had finally come to terms with the veteran QB Steven Jyles (31) formerly of the Edmonton Eskimos in 2012, playing only nine games.
BC Lions GM/VP Wally Buono stated “Steven has a lot of experience in our league as both a starter and a back-up and we expect him to provide a significant level of competition for the quarterbacks we have under contract.”
He started in the CFL in 2006 with Edmonton, then was moved to Saskatchewan in 2008 and appeared Riders in addition to the 2009 Grey Cup.
He was named as the starting quarterback in Winnipeg in 2010 and while there he led the CFL with a 100.9 pass rating and established a career-high for TD passes with 19.
The Bombers traded him to Toronto where he split his playing time with (then) starter Cleo Lemon in 2011, before returning to Edmonton in 2012 as part of the Ricky Ray trade.
He has dressed for 114 regular season games, 28 as a starter and has thrown for 7,075 yards on 541 completions which included 37 touchdowns.
He has also added 1,296 rushing yards on 197 carries with 13 majors in his career and the Lions are hoping for the same type of production this season.
Jyles led the CFL with a 100.9 passer rating and set a personal best with 19 TD passes. He is expected to back up Travis Lulay.
