UBC Road Trip
The team got back from one of the best training camps and team bonding trips that we have ever done.
Brylle Kamen was forced to miss the trip due to elbow surgery over the break, and another player (out of Province) left his passport at home and was unable to attend.
For those that did attend, which include the coaches and players it will go down as a life-long memory and being in Waikiki for nine days, playing three games and practiced every day except one, was something that can never be repeated
In the first game the team played an extremely physical Pro-Am team called the Hawaii Selects, which is made up of ex D1 and D2 guys.
They played in a unique, but character gym on the Pearl Harbour Naval Base and while it was extremely tough and physical they felt that the players responded well, winning by a score of 85-74.
The game was called with about 3 minutes left after one of their players threw a backhand punch at Tonner Jackson that made his nose start bleeding all over the floor.
t was a good win for us and nice to see our guys play and handle the physicality of the game.
The second game we played against Hawaii Pacific University (NCAA D2) who currently sit 9-2 and are extremely good and well coached.
The game was a tight contest but in the end making some poor decisions late in the game cost them, which saw them drop the game by a score of 82-75, with there point guard nailing 35 of the 82 points. He shot 5-7 from three point land, hit 7-of-8 free throws.
UBC had several chances but the shot selection hurt us in the final two minutes and then they were forced to foul.
The third game was again against the Hawaii Selects, which saw UBC win by a score of 62-60 and with four minutes remaining the floor was too unplayable (due to humidity) so the game was called to prevent any serious injuries to either team.
The building is an open air vented arena style building so when a rain storm hit, the floor became extremely slippery and the floor became almost like a skating rink.
A great trip of a lifetime for everyone.
Thanks to UBC for the info.
