True Pro

Playing in front of his home town crowd, Family and numerous Friends it is only fitting that Derek Jeter ends his career the way it should have been ended.

Playing his final game and his final season as a Yankee, it could have been a horrible ending calling it a disappointment, but his final game at Yankee Stadium ended the way it should have ended – with a victory. jeter waves by

Better yet it ended with off a victory that resulted from a true Jeter moment, the way it should have ended.

He hammered an inside-out swing on a first pitch sending into right field scoring pinch runner Antoan Richardson (from second) with the game winner. Hollywood could not have written a more satisfying script.

This was his last game in Yankee “pinstripes” as for the weekend games in Boston the Yankees will wear their road grays.

Jeter gave the crowd an early thrill with an RBI double off the wall for the history books when his routine grounder sent to short turned into two runs giving the Yankees the lead.

Regardless of all this it was his walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth shortly after David Robertson had blown a three-run lead allowing two ninth-inning home runs that caused Yankee Stadium to explode.

As expected he (Jeter) was mobbed after the game by both current and former teammates that included Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez and former Yankee Manager Joe Torre.

Watching Jeter try to keep his emotions in tact was hard to do, even watching from the couch or the local sports bar.

jeter tips hatThe sellout crowd chanted his name more than once, giving him a thunderous, spontaneous standing ovation in the eighth inning — prompting him to tip his cap around the ballpark.

Only fitting that he goes out in class as the normally stoic Jeter was clearly struggling to maintain his composure.

The final three games of Jeter’s career get underway in Beantown (Boston) where Chris Capuano (2-4, 4.67 ERA) goes against RH Steven Wright (0-0, 3.38) with the first pitch at 7:10 pm – eastern time.

Solid career for a true PRO!!!!
