If you’re gambling on the name for the new Vegas team being announced in the next short while, simply put – don’t bet on it!
Bill Foley was awarded the expansion franchise for Vegas, as well as a few craps casinos at www.EasyMobileCasino.com. However, for the team to be competitive in the market from a marketing perspective they need to get a name in place.
I am hearing that the names have been reduced from 18 to four and the new name should be in place prior to the start of the 2016-17 NHL season.
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Steve Carp he (Foley) mentioned that they are in “good position and meeting with the NHL and Adidas to look at logos and designs and will have more clarity in the next 30 days.”
One name that keeps popping up is “Knights”, but that is owned by the London Knights of the OHL.
Apparently attempts to reach Dale Hunter, owner of the London Knights have been (to date) unsuccessful, but they continue to try.
They are able to use this name in the US, but not in Canada for marketing purposes.
Others are mentioning using the name of Silver Knights, while others are mentioning that other teams in the same division should be called the Court Jesters.
While this issue is for Foley to deal with Vegas GM George McPhee and Assistant GM Kelly McCrimmon can solely focus on the hockey operations of the club.
Foley told the media “the priority was to get George hired and get Kelly on board to get the Scouts hired.”
Foley mentioned the Clark County permits for the team’s proposed practice facility are being finalized as the lease for the facility, which will be built across from Downtown Summerlin on Pavilion Center Drive has been finalized with The Howard Hughes Corp. Gillette Construction of Las Vegas will build the 105,000 square-foot facility, which will house two ice rinks and serve as the team’s headquarters.
Foley went on to mention “We’re looking at groundbreaking around Oct. 1 and the county is 100 % behind us, and I’m hopeful we’ll have everything ready in time for our first season (in 2017).”
So rather than take in a show, which is what any Wife would want, the guy’s now have an option to take in a hockey game south of the 49th.
It’s an affordable option to attending any show that might be playing on the Vegas strip, unless you are planning on taking in “Old Vegas” for the sights.
