The CP Women’s Open entered the final day of competition and see’s Lydia Ko and Candie Kung sharing the 54 hole lead where the temperature at T-Time was a cool 15 degrees on the links.
Entering the day Ko had recorded four birdies against a lone bogey on 18 to shoot a 69, while Kung’s play was somewhat of a more inconsistent play with four birdies and three bogeys.
Ko has her sights set on becoming only the third golfer to win three Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship’s allowing her to join Meg Mallon and Pat Bradley.
Kung (four-time winner) is coming off of her best finish of the year tying for second at the Cambia Portland Classic and is looking for her first victory since the 2008 Hana Bank-KOLON Championship.
Chasing Ko and Kung in the penultimate group will be Alison Lee, who shot a third-round 65 to sit two shots back and Karine Icher who is three back at 9-under.
Laird set up on the first tee to grab shots of all previous winners of the event and stayed there for most of the day, naturally chatting with several of the spectators as well as members of the RCMP as he say’s “they were guarding his camera.
San Jose’s Christina Kim teed off at 9:20 pairing up with Sherbrooke’s Maude-Aimee Leblanc, then the long wait – again, which was fine as I had to locate the interview I had previously arranged.
During that time we had a chance to chat with Linda from North York who is one of the long serving volunteer’s and fly’s home tonight as tomorrow is her Anniversary.
She has been a volunteer for several years and not just this event, she was recently at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, the Men’s PGA, the 2010 Olympics and several other events.
In 2012 she was on hole 12 and apparently did an outstanding job as she was promoted to hole 2 for this event.
She is a vibrant and fun loving individual who obviously loves life and enjoys dealing with the volunteers who make any and all events a success.
While there were several photographers covering the event, Laird met some of his own who were very helpful as some cover these events for the LPGA.
In addition to Bev who also works for Burns Bog Conversation, the two young ladies who worked the media tent and took care of our menu’s.
In addition to those working the holes with the “quiet” flag as well as Tyler Stockli who was working behind the scenes for the TV Crew.
Oh yea – one nice lass from Scotland who covers this and is looking at coming back next year when it’s in Alberta.
