Tragic Loss In Officiating

When you officiate any sport you do it for the love of the game and are to make your calls fair while allowing the players to play under the “umbrella” of safety.

Some take it far too serious, regardless of the sport and different degrees of violence can and will happen to any official.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a long career without any problems, consider yourself either lucky or an extremely well respected official.

One wasn’t so fortunate as reports coming out of Argentina state that an Amateur referee was shot three times and killed by a player he had “Red-Carded”.

The police in Argentina are still looking for the person who shot the referee in the Cordoba Province.

A local paper stated that when the player was sent off he went to his player’s bag, retrieved a gun, returned and shot the 48 year-old referee.

It is reported that the referee (Cesar Flores) was shot in the head, chest and neck as well as another player Walter Zarate was also injured, but not word on the extent of his injuries.

This is taking the sport far too serious and depending on how it’s handled, it will be interesting.

Thoughts to the Family of Cesar Flores the game referee.

The wife of a Detroit-area soccer referee has filed a $51 million lawsuit against the man who killed her husband with one punch during a game.

He died after Bassel Saad punched him in the head in retaliation for a penalty called during a game in Livonia last June.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in Wayne County court. It names Saad, the man who controlled the team, and the soccer league, as defendants.

Saad was recently sentenced to at least eight years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

He expressed remorse and said he prays for the Bieniewicz family.
