Tragic Loss For Baseball World

As we all embrace life to its fullest and reach our goals in the sporting world, it’s important for everyone to understand how precious life can be.

Regardless of Race, Nationality or Religion we play sport and embrace each other as fellow human beings so as to become a family within a family.

You play your chosen sport and thank the one’s that helped you achieve success in a manner you would otherwise not reach and often take this for granted.

We play, we laugh and we respect each other’s way of life, but as much as we understand this in our daily grind, life can be taken snuffed out in a minute.

Such was the case with Miami Marlins starting All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez who just recently turned 24.

Fernandez was a Cuban American MLB player who played for the Marlins from 2013-2016.

He was born in Santa Clara, Cuba and tried three unsuccessful attempts at defecting until he was successful in 2008.

If you think it’s easy, it’s not as with each unsuccessful attempt it was followed by a prison term, so just maybe we should think of how lucky we have it in Canada.

It’s mentioned that in 2007 when his Mother and Sister defected on the successful attempt that his Mother fell overboard and he dove into the water to rescue her.

The reached Mexico and eventually moved to Tampa in 2008 and attended school at Braulio Alonso High School, where he played for the school baseball team.

He made his MLB debut with the Marlins April 7th/2013 and was named to the 2013 MLB All-Star game.

It’s reported that Fernandez and two other individuals died with their 32-foot vessel somehow slammed in tofernandez-boat a jetty off Miami Beach, but it is yet to be known the time of the accident.

It’s reported that he (Fernandez) died from trauma and not drowning and that there was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs were a cause in the crash.

It’s also reported that none of the three victims wore a life jacket when on the water. If you find yourself abusing alcohol or drugs just search ‘methadone doctor near me‘ and find the facility which can help you get through the treatment.

There were pregame tributes and moments of silence for Fernandez across the majors. His jersey hung in the Mets’ dugout as they played Philadelphia at Citi Field.

Fernandez returned to the line-up following an extensive rehab from Tommy John elbow surgery, which was his final start of the season.

Fernandez’s 76th and final game was Tuesday, when he pitched eight shutout innings, struck out 12 and beat the Washington Nationals 1-0.

fernandez-tributeToronto Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro told the media “You get a lump in your throat and a pit in your stomach and it’s a perspective blast.”

This news for Shapiro brought back personal memories from spring training of 1993, when he was a member of the Cleveland Indians front office.

In March of that year Indians relievers Steve Olin and Tim Crews were killed in a spring training boating accident that seriously injured left-hander Bob Ojeda.

Baseball is a game and regardless of the sport you hear of a tragedy such as this and in reality everything else seems insignificant.fernandez-sad-day
