Three Year Strategic Plan

I am pleased that the British Columbia Rugby Union sent this over so as to help them promote and grow the sport for the future of the game.

Thanks to Steve Cook for the info.

The BC Rugby Union Board of Directors, together with the BCRU, has recently undertaken the task of creating a new three-year strategic plan for our organization.

rugby rushThe expiry of our previous plan, when coupled with the appointment of Jim Dixon as the new CEO of BC Rugby, presented the perfect opportunity for the Board and staff to examine where we are as an organization,

The challenges we need to address and the immediate and longer term steps that should be taken to achieve our objectives.

During our review process we engaged with our member clubs and sub-unions to gain knowledge of the challenges they face and their input regarding the steps that the BCRU should consider taking to help address such challenges and further the development of the sport and culture of rugby in BC.

Our plan specifically addresses both the grass roots development of our game and the pathway for high performance players, coaches, referees and administrators.

We have set out specific targets for the BCRU to meet on a semi-annual basis in relation to our stated objectives and are committed to measure our progress and report back to our members.

The recent appointment of two full time Regional Development Officers is a concrete example of the Boards’s commitment to foster the development of rugby at the grass roots level.

We are committed to establishing a full men’s and women’s Sevens competition and representative  programs to augment our current current 15s programs and our boys Elite Youth Sevens program.

To that end, we have expanded our sponsorship of the High School Sevens provincial championships.

We plan to use our new live streaming capacity to promote the game to new young players and also to provide a facility for our clubs to share best practices and to participate in  skill development “webinars”.

BC currently enjoys a highly respected status within the Canadian rugby community.  brit lions

The Board believes that the BCRU, working collaboratively with its members and other stakeholders, can achieve much more when it comes to grass roots development of the game and on-field performance by our representative participants.

In my view, the new three-year plan is the way forward. If we dedicate ourselves to its achievement,  I have no doubt that BC will become the recognized leader of rugby development and performance in the world.
