The best synchronized swimmers in Canada in the junior, 16-18 age group and senior level are set to compete at Synchro Canada’s 2012 Canadian Open Championships scheduled for May 2-6 at the Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria.

A total of 268 athletes from 30 clubs across Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan) are competing as well as 36 officials.

There’s an international flavor to the competition as well with athletes entered from Venezuela

Qualifying event for 2012 Junior National Team

Also on the line are berths to Synchro Canada’s 2012 Junior National Team scheduled to compete at the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships set for September 12-16 in Volos, Greece.

The top-25 in the junior figures event on Thursday May 3 advance to Phase 2, a second figures event scheduled for Saturday May 5.

The top 16 from Phase 2 will advance to a selection camp in June held at the Centre of Excellence in Montreal.

Synchro Canada’s 2012 Junior National Team head coach Jenn Tregale (Calgary Aquabelles) with assistant coaches Maude Pelchat (Laval, Dollard Synchro) and Johana Vasquez (Terrebonne, Montréal Synchro) will then select the 12-member team.
