A pair of wins on Vancouver Island has vaulted the Fraser Valley Jets from sixth place to second place in the SCWHL standings.
The Jets topped the Island Surge 4-0 and 3-1 in Week Five and are undefeated in five games since a season-opening loss to the Meadow Ridge Moose.
Fraser Valley was two-for-four on the powerplay Saturday night at the Panorama Recreation Centre, while Jessica Anderson made 33 saves for her second shutout of the season.
Scoring for the Jets were Jessica Sherwood, Brianna Barnes-Lindner, Jenna Proulx and Jackie Lang. Lang scored all three goals for the Jets
Sunday morning at the Esquimalt Arena, raising her season total to five in as many games played. Anderson stopped 44 shots in the Fraser Valley goal for her second win of the weekend.
The Richmond Devils and North Shore Rebels also won in Week Five, leaving both teams tied with the Moose and South Fraser TNTfor third place.
The Devils edged the Moose 4-3 Saturday night at the Richmond Ice Centre, getting the game-winning goal from Stefanie Costales with five minutes to play. It was the second goal of the game for Costales.
After falling behind 3-0, the Moose rallied with two goals from Natalie Richardson and one from Sydney Kreps in a three-minute span midway through the third period.
Ashley Specht and Emily Costales also scored for Richmond. North Shore blanked the Surrey Wildcats 4-0 at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford Sunday afternoon.
Elexa Pakozdy netted a pair of first period goals for the Rebels, with Jess Sibley and Nicole Charlton adding a goal each in the second frame. Samantha Levy earned her second shutout of the season.
Three Stars of the week
First Star: Jackie Lang (Fraser Valley Jets)
Jackie Lang netted four goals in two games, lifting the Fraser Valley Jets to a pair of victories in Victoria, moving up to second place in the SCWHL standings.
Lang scored once in a 4-0 win over the Island Surge Saturday night at the Panorama Recreation Centre, then tallied all three goals in a 3-0 Jets win in Sunday’s rematch at the Esquimalt Arena.
Second Star: Stefanie Costales (Richmond Devils)
Stefanie Costaled scored her first two goals of the season in Saturday’s 4-3 triumph over the Meadow Ridge Moose at the Richmond Ice Centre, including the winning goal with just five minutes remaining in regulation time.
Third Star: Elexa Pakozdy (North Shore Rebels)
Two goals from Elexa Pakozdy powered the North Shore Rebels to a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon over the Surrey Wildcats at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford.
Pakozdy is fourth in the SCWHL scoring race with three goals and seven points in four games played.
The league is sanctioned by Hockey Canada and BC Hockey, and is classed as Senior AA.
