Working with the Richmond Sockeyes is not just fun but what makes it even more enjoyable is working and interacting with the volunteers.
They are at every game and this is not the only event that they attend and work at with others including the BC Lions, Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Whitecaps as well as the Canada Cup.
Our volunteers include members of the BC Special Olympics who quite often go “above and beyond to help anyone and everyone when they are asked.
Throughout the season we have managed to grab interviews with several as well as those who run the program in Richmond who are a delight to chat with.
I recently received the following and wanted to share it with you.
Enjoy the read and thanks for sending this out to Sportswave.
Special Olympics Team BC 2024 members showed hard work, dedication, and team spirit – and it has been so inspiring to see all they have accomplished over the last five days at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024!
On Saturday, SO Team BC brought in another 33 medals, bringing our final medal count to a stunning total of 135!

SO Team BC 2024 ended their National Games with a bang! The Burnaby Wildcats curling team took home SO Team BC’s last medal, winning gold in a thrilling victory on Saturday!
Athletes then celebrated their podium finishes, personal bests, and inspiring achievements at the awards ceremony that took place at Calgary City Hall.
It was such an inspiring moment for all provinces to come together and celebrate the power of sport and inclusion.
To cap off the National Games, SO Team BC 2024 celebrated all their successes and lifelong memories at the Closing Ceremony, dancing the night away!
Behind each hardworking Special Olympics athlete are dedicated volunteers providing expert guidance and heartfelt encouragement.
Without the committed and talented coaches, mission staff, and other volunteers who give their time and energy to athletes, SO Team BC would not be where it is today. We are so grateful to each and every one of you.
Watch the above video to learn about the father-daughter duo of Mark and Isabelle Schnurr, alpine skiing coaches for SO Team BC.
“To see the smile on their face once they finish the course and being so happy, or standing on the podium – they’re so excited. I think that’s my satisfaction.”
-Special Olympics Team BC 2024 NextGen Coach Isabelle Schnurr
“From the bottom of my heart, this is my first National Games, and I want to dedicate it to each and every single one of you, those who have helped me and been there for me. And I am also dedicating this to my family back home, because I know they’re proud of me.”
