The goal was set up by Jake Fletcher and Brent Chreptyk on a quality passing play leading to the tip-in.
The Steelers came back at 7:12 for the equalizer as Luca Mercer beat Ice Hawks goalkeeper John Latrace on a rebound that found the back of the net with assists going to Chow and Gaudet.
Grandview had the better chances in the first finishing with 11-6 in the shot department.
In the second period which was wide open for scoring chances by both teams and 24 total shots on goal 13 by the Steelers and 11 for the Ice Hawks saw a great goalkeeping battle between MacInnes and Latrace as they came up with some highlight reel saves.
Grandview took the lead on a goal by Timothy Chow at 5:54 (their second goal of the night) on the PP and getting solid goalkeeping from MacInnes to preserve the lead.
MacInnes was seeing the puck well as the Steelers enabled him to see the shots clear, forcing the shooter to the outside and protecting the blue paing.
The third was anyone’s game as the teams continued fast paced hockey and hard hitting at both ends of the ice as they were even with both tenders playing exceptional between the pipes.
Grandview got the insurance goal late in the game with 1:10 remaining on the clock getting an empty netter while Ice Hawks Latrace was on the bench for an extra attacker.
Joel Gaudet took a flip pass from defenseman Jordan Hall and out-skated Ice Hawks defenseman to the puck and while being checked making it 3-1 for the Steelers.
Shots in the game were 28-20 for Grandview as Cole MacInnes stopped 20 of 22 shots, giving the Steelers the much needed win.
The other end saw Hawks “tender” Jacob Latrace face 30 shots stopping 27.
Playing on special team had the Steelers go 2-6 while the Ice Hawks 0-3 through three periods of play.
The three stars in the game were
1. Timothy Chow (Grandview)
2. Jordan Hall (Grandview)
3. Jacob Latrace (Delta)
