Thanks to Trevor McManus for the report on the Vancouver Stealth in the game played in Calgary.
The Vancouver Stealth (0-2) visited the Scotiabank Saddledome to take on their western rival Roughnecks who have a 1-1 record on the season.
Both teams had difficulties with their offence in Week 1, but early action insured that would not be the case in Week 2.
Calgary opened the first quarter with 5 of the first 6 goals of the game, finishing the opening frame 6-4.
The teams swapped a pair of goals in the second, while the Roughnecks had another 6-goal performance in the third.
The Stealth rallied in the fourth outscoring Calgary 3-1 in the final 15 minutes, but ultimately finished on the wrong end of the score-sheet, 15-12.
“We are 0-2, we have 16 games left and we need to starting winning, but we are not pushing the panic button,” said Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Jamie Batley. “We need to get better shooting percentages and we need more goals from some of our guys and they know that.”
Corey Small had 5 assists, Rhys Duch scored his first goal of the season and added 3 assists.
Ryan Fournier notched the first goal of his NLL career, breaking up a Calgary run of two goals in 11 seconds.
Brandon Clelland played the best game of his pro-career adding 2 goals and 2 assists.
Logan Schuss tallied a hat trick in the first quarter and finished the night with 5 goals on 8 shots and had three helpers.
“It is great to get the nice feeds from all the guys on the floor. When I have those opportunities, I need to put the ball in the net and we should have a good chance to win,” said Assistant Captain Logan Schuss. “It was the little things that got away from us tonight, we need to tighten that up. We have a bye-week, so we are going to focus on our conditioning, stay in shape and look to come out of New England with a big win.”
Vancouver will have a bye in Week 3, but return in Week 4 action, when they visit the New England Blackwolves on Friday, December 29 at 4:30pm PST. The game will be heard on TSN Radio 1410 and available on NLL TV.
The Stealth return home on January 6, 2018 in a West vs East match up against the Toronto Rock.
Tickets to the game are still available including single game tickets, stocking stuffer two-game flex packs and Boston Pizza Holiday Packs, which feature four tickets, one large pizza, four soft drinks and a cactus cut appetizer for $99 at all local Boston Pizzas.
