Stars Shine

The dilemma surrounding the Canucks can be summed up in one word – LOST!

The entered the NHL Draft on March 5th with some insight as to what they had to do for a “slight fix” for the struggling team that has lost the touch to score.

Luongo’s exit or so it was perceived would be a welcome adjustment from what they have been going through the past while, but apparently not.

Leaving Phoenix and taking on a club what is solid with goal production and a BC “boy” that loves to impress everyone was a task they would have to deal with.

The Dallas Stars have former BCHL Victoria Grizzlies and Peninsula Panther Junior B player Jamie Benn on the roster and wants to make an impression to everyone, especially those wearing Canuck Colours that he comes from BC.

As a youngster playing minor hockey for the Peninsula Eagles MHA he attended Stelly’s Secondary School, prior to playing for the Kelowna Rockets, then getting selected 129th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Following the draft he played for the Rockets and scored 65 points in his rookie season, then improved to a 46 goals along with 36 assists for 82 points in just 56 games in 08-09.

He was named to Team Canada for the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa and grabbed  4 goals, 2 assists in 6 games.

The Canucks on the other hand have made changes to improve, er get rid of the ongoing saga with Roberto and brought in Jacob Markstrom who played with  Eddie Lack in Brynas If Gavle-Sweden in the 20010 season.

So this duo should be solid keeping the Canucks in games that otherwise they might drop to teams that they should clearly defeat.

Kesler is still a Canuck and while some might question this, it’s a good thing as long as the team can put him on a consistent line in which to add some scoring punch to a deflated team.

The Stars built a 5-0 lead, which saw Seguin score twice in the first period and finally complete his hat-trick at 12:53 of the third.

The Stars began the second on a 5-minute PP as Canuck forward Zack Kassian was handed a major penalty for boarding plus game misconduct for a hit on Brenden Dillon directly in front of the Canucks’ bench with 1:30 left in the first.

Will this earn him a suspension and remember Kassian was given three pre-season and five regular season games for a high stick on Sam Gagner in the preseason.

Brenden DillonDillon played with Seattle in the WHL and was signed as a free agene to a three-year entry level contract and at one point played for the Hope Ice Breakers in the PIJHL.

He recorded his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick as well he also managed to get his first career goal in a 4-3 shootout win against Phoenix.

This was his third three-goal game this season and is tied with Bill Guerin and Mike Modano for the Stars record.

As much as the fans continue to cheer for the home team, something’s missing as far as production goes.

Here’s hoping the rest of the season improves?
