St. George’s defeat BWC 3-1 – February 22nd

St. George’s School won 3-1 against the Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) at Father Bauer Arena in UBC on Feb. 22.

This was one of the last games of the regular season before the U15 division begins the 2025 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSH) Western Championships.

The game was off to a quick start, although neither team scored a goal in the first period.

St. George’s Minsoo Lee and Bingo Zhao received penalties in the first period for cross-checking and hooking.

10 minutes into the second period, St. George’s Luca Rogers scored a goal with an assist from Lee. This is Roger’s 19th goal of the season.

Then BWC’s Michael Puddicombe tied the score before the end of the second period with an assist from Jack Davison.

BWC’s Chase Henderson and Matthew Sutherland received two penalties in the second period.

In an exciting third period, St. George’s Hudson Lesk scored a goal 9 minutes into the third period with two assists. This is Lesk’s 20th goal of the season.

Then just as the third period was about to finish, St. George’s Gavin Panaich scored a goal on an empty net, winning the game.

In the third period there were no penalties from both teams.

The top scorer for St. George’s this season is Nick Hill with 25 goals. Lesk is close behind with 31 goals. 

BWC’s top scorers this season are Ethan Kartadinata with 25 goals and Wyatt Lowther with 21 goals.

On Feb. 23,  St. George’s lost 0-7 against Yale Hockey Academy.

That same day BWC won 8-1 against the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy.

This was BWC’s last game of the regular season.

St. George’s will be playing against the North Shore Warriors at Father Bauer on March 1 in their end of the season game before preparing for the championships.

The CSSHL Western Championships will take place in Penticton from March 2 to March 16.

This marks the 9th time Penticton has hosted the championships.

There will be 104 teams in total participating in the games, including B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Idaho and Washington.

The U15 division will play in the championships from March 2 to March 11.
