Soggy, But Otherwise Good Day

Two Canadian golfers in contention after a wet and soggy day at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club after the opening round of the Presidents Choice Financial Championship.

The tournament opened with a field of 156 players and purse of $150,000.00 with the winners share of $27,000.00.

The weather was a factor for the majority of the day as it rained steady from the tee off time at 7:15am, but regardless the field took to the Point Grey course to test their skills early.

Brad ClappCanadian Eugene Wong and Brad Clapp are in contention as Wong shares the lead with Joel Dahman of the US and Brad Clapp just stroke back after the opening round.

The groups were mixed as the Canadians and international players from the United States golfers with the majority of them shooting or under par 72 on the opening day under some tough conditions in the first two days of making the cut.

An exceptional day for Canadian as they are in contention for tops in the prize money.

These include Mark Hoffman, Devin Carey, Seann Harlingten all at 68 while James Allenby shot 69 along withy Riley Flemming.

Four (4) shots back are Kent Eger, Riley Wheeldon, David Byrne, Corey Renfrew and Clark MacPherson finishing with a 70 on the day.

The crowds were light on the fairways as they supported the golfers in the opening round despite the weather.

The leader board changed several times but things settled down in the afternoon as the players managed to play a steady game keeping their drives in the fairway and shots to the greens.

The finish of the day was Vancouver’s Eugene Wong who saved par on the 18th hole saving a shot out of the bunker to nail a par putt moving him into a share of the lead at 6 under par.

Wong and American Joel Dahmen managed a 66, while Brad Clapp (Vancouver) shot 65.
