SFU Men’s hockey team pulled off a S/O victory over Thompson Rivers last in Kamloops improving their record to 14-4-0-1 on the season moving within three points of first place Selkirk College with Kane Wild managing to score the game winner.

The only goal in the session to give his club it’s 14th win of the season in game that defense went out the window on this night.

Simon Fraser opened the scoring with three straight goals to go in front 3-0 on Thompson Rivers seeing Sandor, Hoe and Ceci beat Shane Mainprize before Thompson Rivers came back cutting the lead to 3-2 before the end of the period. Shots in the opening period were 15 each taking a 3-2 lead to intermission.

The second saw Sylvester extend the lead to 4-2, but the Thompson Rivers came back on an unassisted goal by Tonello.

Prior to the end of the period the visitors extended the lead to 5-3. Shots through two periods were 28-26 for SFU.

The final session saw Jackson (Thompson Rivers) cut the lead to 5-4 a short ten minutes in, but SFU came back to extend the lead by two goals as Sandor scored (second of the night) putting them up 6-4.

But before the night was over Thompson Rivers got even on goals by Tomassetti and Jackson (second of the night) tying the game at six.
Overtime failed to settle anything so the teams went to the dreaded shootout.

Kane Wild was the only player to score in the extra session giving SFU the win with the shootout going 7 rounds before being decided.

In the other league action U of Victoria were 4-3 winners over Eastern Washington.
