SFU Clansmen Win A Pair

SFU Hockey recorded a 8-3 win over Thompson Rivers Saturday night at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre following up on a 11-4 win on Friday in Victoria.

This moves them to within three (3) points of the top ranked Selkirk team which is sitting at 12-0-0 so far this season.

Brenden Sylvester had an outstanding game with four (4) on the night as the team improved to 10-1-0-1 for 21 points as they continue to have a solid season in the BCIHL.

SFU led 4-0 after the opening period and 7-2 heading into the final period before adding another in the final period to complete the rout over Thompson Rivers.

The opening period saw SFU score four (4) times as they got goals from McDonald, Graf, Mysiorek, and Dhaliwal. The lead could have been far greater as the peppered 24 shots on Thompson Rivers “keeper” Shane Mainprize who managed to have 20 saves keeping the score respectable. Thompson Rivers managed only 8 shots in the period on Gordon.

The second saw SFU hammer home three straight goals extending the lead to 7-0 which saw Sylvester score a hat trick in his four goal game. The three came in a span of under two minutes to start the period.

Thompson Rivers added a pair before the period ended as Tyler Jackson beat Gordon breaking his shutout bid putting them up 7-2 heading into the final period. Shots were 18-9 for SFU.
The teams traded goals in the final period which saw Sylvester get his fourth of the night making it 8-2 for SFU before Thompson Rivers found the net one more time. Jackson completed his hat trick in 8-3 loss to SFU with the shot tally in the final period even at 13 each.

SFU had an edge of 55-30 on the night, which saw a change between the pipes as Thompson Rivers changed goalkeepers in the final period putting Wall in to replace Mainprize.

Next action for SFU in the BCIHL league see’s them on the road in Eastern Washington at EWU. This action will take place January 11^th before returning Saturday to face Selkirk College at the Castlegar Recreation Centre.

The last time these teams met Selkirk won 5-3, but SFU tried to come back as they were down 5-0.

This was SFU’s only (regulation) loss this season so they are looking to even the score.
