The Western Conference see`s the number three seed in the US division play the number four seed in the BC division.
The Giants ended up with a record of 35-32-1-4 for 75 points while Tri-City finished with 44-24-2-2 for 92 total points.
The Giants return to home ice in front of 7,157 fans and being down by 2-1 to the Americans who would like nothing better than steal two games and eliminate Vancouver and end the 2010-11 season.
Parking was a premium and the media booth was packed, with several NHL Scouts on hand to take in this contest, in part due to the Canuck game this Thursday at the Rogers Arena.
The Giants came out knowing that if they drop this game, it get`s down to a season ending home game tomorrow and chances are, the season could end then. Not the way they had imagined it to be.
If anyone could summarize it up to one word, it would have to be injuries.
This season has been a nightmare for the Giants and the Coaching staff having to make numerous changes for far too many games over the 72 regualar season schedule.
While they (the Giants) seemed to come up just short in the first two games, they were hoping to rebound on home ice as were the many fans on hand. Through one period Tri-City outshoot the Giants 9-6.
While the game is physical, the Giants were down by one after two, but managed to keep the shot`s even at 14 each.
While the Giants played strong, they were unable to muster up any power against Tri-City managing to take two foolish minors, allowing Tri-City to grab a 3-0 lead on a PP goal.
Tempers can get the best of anyone and on this night, it clearly had the number of the Giants. A late charge by Tri-City took any surge from the Giants, but they never quit.
When anyone entered the blue-paint they forced them to the outside by whatever means necessary.
It was obvious that the Giants were frustrated with the way in which things played out and it showed due to the number of foolish penalties they took after the play was stopped, but the game ref`s Colby Smith and Jeff Ingram.
Down by three only seemed to frustrate the Giants as Tri-City once again grabbed yet another PP goal at 18:13 giving up goal number four.
Final shots were Tri-City 24, Vancouver Giants 22.
Three Stars:
1st Adam Hughesman (Tri-City)
2nd Drew Owsley (Tri-City)
3rd Brendan Gallagher ( Giants)
Seattle Thunderbirds Change Coach
Seattle Thunderbirds General Manager Russ Farwell announced the T-Birds will not be renewing the contract of Head Coach Rob Sumner for the 2011-12 season.
“Rob has contributed a great deal to our organization during his time here and we would like to thank him for his years of service with the Thunderbirds,” said Farwell. “He was a dedicated and loyal member of our team for 15 years and we appreciate his efforts to help the Thunderbirds grow as an organization.”
While some might question the change, remember this is Junior hockey and it`s about having a successful product on the ice.
Seattle ended up 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 27-35-5-5 over 72 games played finishing with a dismal 62 points.
One must not forgot that this is the same number of points that the Kamloop Blazers finished with.
Calgary on the other hand went from the penthouse to the outhouse in a matter of one season, which shocked
