Scoreless Draw For Caps

Photo Credit Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

With the excitement growing around the area for the return of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC it’s interesting that they are still on the road this time playing to a 0-0 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at the PayPal Park

It goes without saying that the team is excited to as the Beatles sang “Get Back” released on the 1970 Let It Be album return to the pitch playing in front of what is expected to be a sellout crowd, or so I am hoping.

As one might expect the match was fast paced from the start with the “Caps” having their first chance six minutes in as Raposo delivered a pass to Brian White who was in the middle of the box.

His shot was disappointingly turned aside by JT Marcinkowski, the San Jose keeper which seemed to motivate the second place Earthquake who have 22 points through 19 games, while the Whitecaps have 18 points through 17 games.

It’s fair to say that the last while the Caps are clearly focused on working to dominate all areas of the pitch and getting quality shots on net, hopefully being able to capitalize on the scoreboard.

While it did appear that San Jose had better chances it was Vancouver who managed to draw their fifth consecutive match allowing them to move from the cellar of the West standings.

To the Whitecaps credit they have managed to go six games without a loss and look forward to returning to BC Place.

Maxime Crepeau made an impressive save after Jeremy Ebobisse delivered a shot from a difficult angle on the pitch, keeping the game interesting and scoreless at the half.

The second half saw the Quake come out with what many considered more jump and it wasn’t until the 62nd minute that Crepeau came up with a huge shot from Ebobisse that was labeled for the bottom corner.

Whitecaps Head Coach Marc Dos Santos subbed in Ryan Gauld and Cristian Dajome in hopes of adding more to their attack, which was Gauld’s second sub appearance and seemed to spark the team in the 73rd minute.

Try as they might, the Caps earned yet another draw heading for one final match at Q2 Stadium against Austin FC for their first-ever meeting with the kick-off at 6 pm (BC time) and can be heard on AM730.
