Referee’s Remarks Costly!!!!
Jokes are great as long as they don’t hurt anyone or anything.Thinking helps when you are playing or taking part in any sport, be you a player, coach, trainer or official.
One such prank or remark that caused a stir (and so it should) was made by a hockey referee Peter Friesma who clearly was not thinking – at all!!
While on a trip for the WCHA referee Peter Friesma commented to those at the airport while going through security stated “But my friend’s bag has a bomb in it,” the agent remembers him saying, according to a charging document.
He later recounted it to authorities slightly differently, more to the effect of “what if my friend’s bag has a bomb in it?”As you can imagine he never made the trip.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Police arrested Peter Friesema on charges of “making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.”
He was put in jail at the Anchorage Correctional Complex with a bail of $5,000, John Parrot, the airport manager said to USA Today.
As you can imagine the main terminal of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was evacuated on Sunday and Friesma “claimed he was just horsing around, he was charged with making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.”
A bad bomb joke led to the main terminal of the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport being evacuated over the weekend, One has to ask “what was he thinking” and if he makes comments like this “how does he react during explosive situations on the ice”.
Not a good ambassador for the League!!
