Re-Cap Minto Cup

The Six nations Arrows Express captured their third Minto Cup title in game six defeating Coquitlam by a score of 14-8.

The series was hosted at the Langley Event Centre in a series that saw Six Nations rally after dropping the first two of a possible seven game series.

Six Nations controlled games three, four and five, but the Adanacs’ were back in the series in game six, but were unable to muster up a stronger finish to the power house Six Nations squad.

The series was filled with excitement as both clubs had solid support from the fans on hand, but it seemed that the pounding of the drums from the Squamish Nation was enough to help Six Nations capture their first title since 2007.

The previous win also played on the Coast saw them win the title in a series that was played at historic Queens Park Arena in New Westminster.

The Adanacs jumped out taking the first two games edging the Arrows 7-6 only to be followed by a come from a 6-4 deficit.

This game saw the Adanacs’ score three in the final period on markers from Eli McLaughlin (a pair) and Wesley Berg with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Game two saw the Adanacs jump out to a 5-1 lead in the opening period, but somehow Six Nations closed the gap to 6-5.

This was as close as they came on this night against the BC Champions who advanced following a hard fought seven game series against New West.

On this night however it was all Adanacs’ in a decisive 11-6 victory putting them up in the series 2-0.

Six Nations Arrows had the following day off (Monday) and travelled to the Squamish Nation for a visit and be treated to a huge salmon dinner.

In addition they had time to spend with friends and relatives allowing them to relax, prior to game three..

Tuesday’s game three saw Six Nations look refreshed and re-energized as they Hammered the BC Champions by a drubbing of 19-5.

This game from the start was extremely one sided with Arrows Express power forward Johnny Powless grabbing a 7 point night.

In addition several Six Nations players hit double figures ringing up their stats for the tournament and narrowing the series to 2-1.

Game four saw the Six Nations bounce back from a 3-0 deficit against the BC champions and with the score tied at 4-4 the Arrows took a commanding lead, scoring 8 of the last nine goals.

Final score in the contest was 10-7 for Six Nations Arrows Express, thus evening the series at 2 games.

The remaining two games belonged to the Six Nations Arrows Express who completed the comeback in the series, winning game five and six by scores of 12-7 and 14-8.

The victory for Six Nations marked the 8th time in the 9 years the Minto Cup was won by an Eastern Team.

MVP of the series went to Six Nations power-forward Quinn Powless who played solid for each of the six games.

Coquitlam played solid, but came up “shy’ on the board, but it should be noted that this Championship was exciting, fast and hard hitting by both clubs.

Thanks to the LEC for hosting this event and to the volunteers who worked endless hours, your dedication did not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to both the Coquitlam Adanacs’ and Six Nations for exceptional Junior A Lacrosse Action.
