The South Delta Sun Devils are looking at regaining the title that they failed to garner last season and are currently battling back for the title of Subway Bowl Triple A Champion.
Entering the season the squad is currently unranked as they made the move from Double A to Triple A.
Over the weekend the Sun Devils turned the stat page to a perfect 5-0 with a 37-22 win over #3 ranked Vancouver College Fighting Irish with the game played at O’Hagan Field.
Sun Devils’ QB Lucas Kirk delivered for two TD passes and managed to show off his skill and ran for another finishing with 350 yards.
Not to be outdone a pair of Brothers namely Jack and Grant McDonald joined Kirk who combined to score the team’s first three TD’s putting the Sun Devils up 24-14 at the half.
Grant opened the scoring on a two-yard run, Jack McDonald hauled in a 16-yard pass from Kirk, and Jack McDonald scored on a 12-yard pass from Kirk.
The Irish managed to score on a 19-yard pass from Giordy Belfiore to Matt Legge, as well as a 28 yard run from Ovie Odjegba.
Both clubs were held scoreless in the third but the fourth saw South Delta put two more TD’s on the board.
The first was a one-yarder that Kirk delivered on alone followed by a 10-yard pass from Kirk to Blake Gau.
Belfiore managed to throw a 20-yarder to Aidan Fay for the Irish.
The Sun Devils has lots of depth in the receiving core only made prevalent by the number of receivers Kirk used.
He threw for 19 passes all going to five different receivers on the field only to be led by Gord Cooper who pulled in six passes for 56 yds.
The McDonald boy’s combined to catch seven passes for 78 yards in total, while Gau caught three for 37 yards and Bryce Connors nabbed three for 80 yards.
South Delta managed a total of eight tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery by Jack McDonald who was playing from his inside linebacker spot.
Charlie Moore and Michael Mann both managed to record six tackles.
Leading the Irish was Odjegba with 21 carries for 139 yards, while Belfiore was 8-of-22 for 107 yards and two scores.
Irish defence was led by Chris Ellis as he managed a total of 17 tackles on the game.
Nice win for the Boy’s from South Delta!!
