British Columbia Golf has announced its 2012 Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Cup Team Members who will challenge the Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association on May 2nd-4th 2012 at Gorge Vale Golf Club (Victoria, B.C.) in its quest for the PNGA Cup.

The PNGA Cup is an annual 2-day Ryder Cup style match play competition that was created in 2005 to help foster the game of golf and goodwill amongst the Provincial and State associations.

The inaugural competition took place in 2006 and rotates between each association annually. British Columbia last hosted the competition in 2007 when it was played at Victoria Golf Club and its only championship came in 2009 at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho.

The competition is comprised of Four-Ball, Foursome and Individual match formats over 2 days in determining an overall winner.

The defending 2011 PNGA Cup winner is Oregon Golf Association, a team that has captured 4 titles since the first competition in 2006.

Representing British Columbia Golf in the Men’s Mid-Amateur Division is a foursome of extremely talented players from Victoria, B.C. (Zone 5) in Brent Wilson, Ben Griffin, Bryan Scott and Kevin Carrigan.

In the Master 40 Men’s Division, Sandy Harper and Stephen Watson, both of Nanaimo (Zone 6) will be donning British Columbia Golf colours. Rounding out the male representation is reining BC Senior Men’s Champion Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody.

Zone 4 runner-up Tony Hatchwell of Nanaimo who will be competing in the Senior Men’s Division.

On the women’s side of the competition, reigning BC Women’s Amateur Champion Christina Proteau of Port Alberni, B.C. (Zone 6) and Alison Quinlan of Victoria, B.C. (Zone 5) will be swinging the sticks in the Women’s Mid-Amateur Division matches.

In the Senior Women’s Division, B.C. Golf Hall of Fame members Jackie Little of Port Alberni (Zone 6) and Alison Murdoch of Victoria (Zone 5) look to have strong performances for British Columbia Golf.

Both finished 1-2 in the 2011 B.C. Senior Women’s Championship.

The 12-player team is determined by their respective Order of Merit positions going into selection based on their 2011 performances.

The order of events for the 2012 PNGA Cup are:

Wednesday May 2nd 2012 – Practice Round

Thursday May 3rd 2012 — Four-Ball Matches (Morning), Foursome Matches (Afternoon)

Friday May 4th 2012 – Singles Matches (Morning), Awards (Afternoon)
