Pilots Capture Cyclone Taylor Cup
The Abbotsford Pilots of the PIJHL captured the Cyclone Taylor Cup with a 3-2 OT win over the Victoria Cougars at MSA Arena in front of a great crowd of onlookers.
The eventual winner was scored by Garett Lynum at 4:17 of the 2nd OT period.
This win allows them to advance to the Keystone Cup in Saskatoon for the National Junior B title.
Abbotsford and the Victoria Cougars met in the Gold Medal game putting on a great show on home ice.
The Cougars opened a 2-1 lead at the end of the first on goals by Chris Bannister and Brody Coulter.
The pilots lone marker was scored by Riley Lamb the 2nd which saw the game remain scoreless heading for the final period with the Cougars up one.
The Pilots never quit having Matthew Genovese get the equalizer with 1:50 remaining in the final frame, forcing OT.
The first OT was scoreless seeing the Pilots hold a 6-3 edge in shots; but the game remained tied at 2.
This has the teams head to the dressing room for not only a rest, but more words with less instruction, which was not needed as the teams know what is required at this level of play.
Garett Lynum got the game winner at 4:17 giving the Pilots the 3-2 win. Shots in the game were 31 each as Pilots Riley Parker stopped 29 and Cougars tender Evan Roch stopped 28.
Victoria grabbed Silver for their effort, coming out with a strong finish representing the VIJHL.
The Delta Ice Hawks managed to grab Bronze defeating the Beaver Valley Nighthawks 5-3.
Beaver Valley goalkeeper Zach Perehudoff played solid in the losing effort in defeat facing 43 shots with 38.
Congratulations to the Abbotsford Pilots in hosting a very professional event.
Thanks to the PIJHL for the photo.
