New President 4 BC Soccer
Roger Barnes (Richmond) was elected as President of BC Soccer by the BC Soccer membership at the June 16, 2012 Annual General Meeting (AGM) for a 2 year term.
Roger succeeds outgoing President Charlie Cuzzetto, who stood down after 3 years in the role, and who was recently elected to the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) Board.
“Thank you for allowing me to lead BC Soccer.” stated Roger Barnes. “As a team sport we know the power of working together.
Our dedicated Board and Staff will help our members in communities across BC increase how many players of all ages enjoy soccer, help all our players and officials (from grassroots to those dreaming of playing for Canada) to develop their skills, and hold memorable, outstanding competitions and events. And have fun along the way!” Barnes added.
Barnes who joined the BC Soccer Board two years ago has been Co-Chair of Soccer Development and served on other committees as well.
Prior to joining the BC Soccer Board, he was very active in the soccer community serving as Richmond (Youth) Soccer Association Chair from 2004-2010, Chair of various Local Organizing Committees when Richmond hosted events such as the CSA All-Star National Boys Championship and Coastal Cup Finals.
His ‘on the field” soccer experience includes coaching and playing in the Richmond Senior Soccer League and officiating in youth.
Away from soccer, he served as Director of the Richmond Olympic Oval Corporation from 2008-11, the organization which manages and operates the facility which successfully hosted the long track speed skating during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
In addition to Barnes appointment, the membership re-elected to the board for 2 year terms, Chris Appleby, in the role of Vice President Finance, Rob Lennox as Vice President Youth and Ed Kennedy and Peter Vranjkovic as Director’s.
Two new Board members were elected to the BC Soccer board as Directors on 2 year terms, Michael Bradley and Joe Cuzzetto.
