New GM/Coach Announced

The Chilliwack Chiefs are pleased to announce that they have hired Jason Tatarnic as the new General Manager and Head Coach.

Tatarnic 41, replaces legendary Chiefs Coach Harvey Smyl who has left after 21 years as bench boss.

Chiefs President Glen Ringdal said “we were overwhelmed with the number and quality of candidates that applied for the position.

And we are  really pleased to announce Jason’s hiring today.” More details on today’s hiring  will be released after the press conference this afternoon.

With changes in the off-season with all leagues, this will no doubt be the only change for any Junior Hockey Club.

Jason Tatarnic was the former coach of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s Woodstock Slammers in 2009-10, then moved on to coach Saskatchewan’s Notre Dame College Hounds.

Obviously the club in Chilliwack was very enticing for him and from what I am told he was an excellent communicator and had no trouble being honest with all the players.

His career saw him start with Brock University, then move on to play in Amsterdam for the Tigers where in 36 games he had a record of 18 goals, 26 assists for 44 points collecting 81 PIM’s.

We wish him all the best in his new position.
