Given the ongoing changes in today’s world it’s time for everyone to unite and join each other in a show of nothing less than respect for each other.
While it’s impossible to put the past behind us, we can strive to move forward in a show of unity and respect for other and learn how to grow in today’s society for the future generations to come.
What happened in the past sadly can’t be changed and we can only offer our thoughts to our First Nations Friends who we must embrace in a show of unity moving forward.
Locally the Delta Islanders along with the Ladner Pioneers showed respect playing on the traditional lands of the Tsawwassen First Nations who they truly respect.
June for Delta Lacrosse was a special month in which they showed respect by hosting the Thomas Hayden Memorial that was followed a week later that saw them host the National Indigenous Peoples Day!
This day marks the day when the Sun is closest to the Earth and is the longest day of the year and the shortest night in which many cultures celebrate the Summer Solstice including many Indigenous people in Canada.
Today, and during the month of June for National Indigenous History Month, we celebrate and recognize Indigenous Peoples’ contributions to the building of Canada and to showcase the strength of Indigenous communities across the country.
The arenas we use are located on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Henqeminem speaking peoples, including Tsawwassen and Musqueam.
We recognize our neighbors the Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish), Tsleil-Waututh, Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, Hwiltsum, and Qayqayt First Nations.

There was a table set up for bids which continued to draw a crowd for the day’s event that saw a continuing stream of supporters have a look and possibly place bids on them which were a huge hit with everyone.
We are looking forward to doing this again next year and possibly setting up an on-line bidding form for those who were unable to attend.
Overall an exceptional day of lacrosse for everyone.
Thanks to the Jr. B 1, Jr. B 2, Victoria Shamrocks (WCSBA) and the Langley Thunder of the BCJALL for their patience during all pre-game ceremonies.
A very personal thanks to Nathan Wilson from the Tsawwassen First Nations for being a huge part of all four games during this impressive day.
