Mount Douglas Rams Crowned Champs

Saturday night saw the conclusion of the BC High School Boys Football Championships played at BC Place.

The final game saw Mount Douglas Rams (from the Island) blasting the Vancouver College Irish by a 51-14 score.

The game was never in doubt as the Rams opened up a 20-0 lead and were up 37-7 at the half well on there way for the their third Championship appearance in four years.

Winning twice before in 2009 and 2011 and this win puts them in the books as one of the power houses in dynasties in BC High School Football in this Province.

The Rams opened the game in the second half against the Irish scoring twice more before allowing a late TD making the final 51-14.

This was a masterful game played against Vancouver College who won in 2010 by a margin of 28-15 over Terry Fox the Rams.

This sizeable amount of points (51 points) is second only to Terry Fox’s 56 points set in 2008 against WJ Mouat in the final and the second most one sided game in the Tournaments history.

Overall the organizers were please with the weekend’s results and what it does for football in this
Province.

Numerous scouts were on hand for the graduating players on the teams, and what their future holds remains to be seen – but it’s bright!

Regardless of the path they choose, University Football with UBC and SFU in Greater Vancouver and earn degrees as well being selected into pro Football in the CFL and the NFL down the road. Who really knows at this point and time?

The exposure in the province is outstanding  and opens the doors for teams success in their classroom and on the field and Sponsors getting involved in the game in the future with the ones that are current that has been a great addition in the Football programs in this Province.

The media coverage as well (at least the ones that attend) the games on the lower mainland and Vancouver Island, plus the Interior is tremendous exposure for the game of Football in this Province.

We are hoping that in the future that this leads to a facility that we can call our own to hold these championships, which can only help to decrease costs in our programs in the future.

The Government realizes the potential for a stadium to have our schools in the playoffs and in the championships that would benefit the game for all the teams and the schools in this Province.

That is our goal and we will continue to work on that overall.

This past weekend was outstanding with the games and the results attendance was again solid by the Schools that took part in the Championship Saturday for the Subway Bowl as the main sponsor of the event.
