Winning not only one championship is hard, but for any club or team to win four championships in a span of seven years is simply unheard of – until now!!
The Vancouver Canadians are a Single A team in the Northwest League and the farm club for the parent Toronto Blue Jays who play out of Vancouver ever prestigious Nat Bailey Stadium during the summer months only.
It’s called short-season ball and we are privy to seeing players come and go throughout the summer months and as such we saw Marcus Stroman pitch in July of 2012 on the same diamond.
He and others alike are (were) having a successful professional career in the pros and this is where it all starts.
The team is build from the ground up and with the guidance of the “Jay’s” General Manager Rich Miller took what many thought were a group of ball players and turned them into winners.
Millers day’s in ball date back the 80ties as he worked as a Coach, Manager and Instructor in Minor League Ball spending his time as a player in the New York Mets organization.
Miller returns to the team as he was the GM when the C’s won their first-ever Northwest League Championship joining the C’s August 11th in 2011.
He not only helped, he moulded them to a team that saw them win 10, drop 14 of the team’s final 24 games advancing them to the North Division post-season play, claiming the first ever championship defeating Tri-City in the Northwest League Championship by two games to one.
We have seen many players move through the organization over time and even this season, but for this group of Coaches and Management to manage to pull together this group and turn them into winners, is something special.
The first half saw the C’s qualify for postseason play winning the North Division first-half pennant with the league’s best record (combined) of 43-33.
Here come the playoffs!!
