Mariners Make Changes

Team’s and organizations make changes for various reasons, but this change isn’t for a player/coach or Manager, but rather oversee the maintenance for Safeco Field in Seattle.

This move is more for a promotion for Joe Myhra who served as Director of Maintenance for Safeco Field joe-myhrasince 2008 and Vice President of the Ballpark Operations for the Seattle Mariners.

He leaves the Mariners in a promotion as he now becomes the President of the United Center in Chicago.

Prior to this he succeeded Scott Jenkins, who left the Mariners to become General Manager of the Atlanta Stadium for the NFL Atlanta Falcons.

Myhra is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and served five (5) years on active duty and attained the rank of Captain.

His active duty service included a tour of duty in Afghanistan and was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, where he was Chief of Maintenance Engineering, prior to joining the Mariners six years ago.

Trevor Gooby was working as the Senior Director of Operations for the Pirates in Florida and the Dominican Republic and it became official when he was introduced by the Mariners as their new Vice President of ballpark operations.

goobyHe (Gooby) will oversee all ballpark operations at Safeco Field, including maintenance, engineering, sustainability, game day operations, grounds keeping, events, housekeeping and security.

The past 12 years were spent in the Pirates organization, where he oversaw the team’s Spring Training operations in Bradenton, Fla., as well as day-to-day operations of the Pirates’ Class A affiliate in Bradenton.

In addition he was in charge of the Pirates’ $10 million renovation in 2013 of McKechnie Field and Pirate City which is the team’s Spring Training and Gulf Coast League home and also oversaw all operations of the club’s Dominican Republic complex in El Toro.

Prior to joining the Pirates, he spent seven years with the Dodgers as the general manager of the now-defunct Class A Advanced Vero Beach Dodgers in Florida.

While he’s spent nearly 20 years working for Major League clubs, this will be his first opportunity to oversee ballpark operations in a Major League city.

Gooby comes from Ipswich, Mass. And is a 1998 Graduate of Emerson College in Boston, where he earned a degree in communications and media studies.

Wishing him all the best on his new position.
