Lower Mainland Baseball League

For the 3rd consecutive year the Canadian Cancer Society, Ball Park Sports, and the Lower Mainland Baseball Association will be combining forces to make the month of May special for our teams, players, families, and friends.

Starting with the May 12/13 Mother’s Day Weekend, teams will use the remaining weekends in the month to complete the fundraiser.

Merv Sandrel of Ball Park Sports will be donating 35 authentic pink coloured wood bats to be used in our league games during May.

We are looking forward to the participation of our 32 teams, players’ families, and friends in this annual event.

Players will be receiving donation forms the first week of May and donations can be made at the ball park or by visiting

www.cancerevents.kintera.org/goingtobat2012

Tax receipts are issued immediately online and for ball park donations, donors will receive a tax receipt sent by the Canadian Cancer Society.

During our first two years, the LMBA has raised over $12 000 and we would encourage everyone to consider donating to a very worthy cause.

The LMBA will contribute $1 per base hit in all sixteen league games on the weekend of May 12 and 13.

Be swinging those bats, guys!

Special Awards From Richmond Sports Council

Several LMBA members and one LMBA team were recognized at the 2012 Richmond Sports Council Awards on May 3rd at their annual dinner and awards banquet.
Congratulations to George Smith (LMBA Director) for being recognized as the Official of the Year.
This was a well-deserved award acknowledging many years of service to Richmond baseball. George Popov (Richmond Monarchs) received the Senior Athlete of the Year for his participation in baseball and athletics.
LMBA co-founder and Monarch’s first baseman, Warren Karsgaard was recognized with a special award for his long-time service to Richmond Minor Baseball – coaching, Executive service, and field maintenance.
The Richmond Monarchs (2011 LMBA 45+ Champions) were runners up in the
Team of the Year category so I guess a three-peat will see them topping this category next year.
Thanks to Dan Taylor for the info.
