Lions Set To Roar in 2024

While the Canucks are currently making news with their season record as well as the players heading to the All-Star Game the Whitecaps are making news of their own with signings.

They are not the only pro teams that are making noise in the off-season with the other being the BC Lions – the club that is hosting this year’s CFL Grey Cup Championship.

Hearing that the BC Lions signed 27-year old Jevon Cottoy (WR) to a three-year extension through 2026 which was a good move considering that as of February 13th he was eligible to become a free agent.

This past season he managed 57 receptions, 807 yds along with four TD’s which is a new career-highs for each category also managing 6 catches, 63 yards plus one TD over Calgary in the Western Semi-Final. 

He played his Junior ball in 2018 with the BCFC Langley Rams grabbing 39 receptions, 657 yds along with eight TD’s over eight games before earning a BFCC All-Star selection. 

He then piled up a remarkable 645 yards and eight touchdowns on 25 catches through four playoff games as one of the Ram’s leaders in the Canadian Bowl against the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Adding to the above they also signed Denzel Williams (DB) to the training camp roster who had a coffee in 2023 with the Philadelphia Stars after the 2022 training camp with the Ravens.

While playing with the Wildcats he managed 28 combined tackles (17 solo, 11 assisted), seven pass breakups, two interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries in 15 games while earning the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honour Roll Award in 2020, fall of 2020 and spring of 2021.

Adding that extra punch saw them sign Daniel Joseph (DL) (6 ‘2, 261 lbs) and was selected by the Lions in round one (fourth overall) of the 2021 CFL Draft.

He recently suited up in 2023 for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons getting eight combined tackles plus two sacks in seven games that saw him with the Bills in 2022 playing in three pre-season games but was released at the end of training camp.

Additional signings saw the Lions lock up Alexander  Hollins (WR) who signed an extension with the club through 2025 was eligible to become a free agent on February 13.

Adding to this saw them sign Stefan Flintoft who has signed an extension for the 2024 season. Flintoft was eligible to become a free agent on February 13. 

He earned a spot on the practice roster after his first Lions training camp (2021) and saw full-time duty in week three becoming the CFL’s leader with 48.3 average yards per punt, third overall in the league amongst qualifiers with a 37.3-yard net average. 

This alone led to a Lions team nomination for CFL Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
