In the 52-year history of the BCHL, not many have gone the distance behind the bench the way Powell River Kings coach Kent Lewis has.
Wednesday night in Nanaimo, the three-time Coastal Conference Coach of the Year reached another milestone as he coached his 1,000th BCHL game.
Like many that came before it, this one was a victory with Lewis’ Kings downing the Clippers 3-2.
Lewis is a former Clippers forward and was an all-star with that club back in the 1985-86 season.
In the spring of 2011, Lewis reached the 500-win mark.
Lewis, Chilliwack Chiefs coach Harvey Smyl and Victoria Grizzlies coach Bill Bestwick are the only BCHL bench bosses to reach these marks.

Preparations for this season’s 2014 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup are humming along smoothly but already, the Western Canadian Junior A leagues are thinking about the year after.
Today, the Canadian Junior Hockey League will announce the host city for the 2015 event.
Last year’s inaugural event was hosted by the Nanaimo Clippers with the Surrey Eagles taking the title to advance to the RBC Cup. This season, the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League will be hosting.
All we know as of this moment is that the 2015 host city will be somewhere in Alberta. The 2016 event will be hosted by a Saskatchewan location before the event returns to B.C. in 2017.
The winner and runner up of the WCC advance to the RBC Cup national championship. The final game of the tournament each year is for second and third place, with the champion claiming their crown on the event’s second-last day
Thanks to the BCHL for the info.
